The course introduces the fundamentals that need to be defined before establishing a visual language for product branding. Among these basic concepts are product, branding, shelving, transporting, packaging, priority audience, competition, market context, etc. The next stage would be to study, practice, and hold critical discussions on the translation of these concepts into a graphical system that creates identity; how a branding personality is created for a product, service or organization; how this personality is made to stand out among competing products and register with the consumer, both visually and conceptually/ideologically.
This is a course that continues the illustration studies from the first year. It introduces illustration and graphic techniques, which serve as a means of expression in visual communication. The course will provide students with a diversified toolbox for formal description, the materialization of ideas, and the development and enrichment of the visual language. We will stress both the skills and the means of their utilization, as well as the development of a consistent, original and evolving illustrative language for a printed graphic product.
Initial introduction to the video medium and its various aspects, and acquiring technical and conceptual skills. The course presents the medium through elements from the cinematic language, and examines the development of the image in motion, from the outset and to its current appearance on every possible platform; the invention of the cinematic camera, the video camera, the entry of computers into the film industry, the use of computerized effects, virtual and augmented reality, video apps and more.
Students will become acquainted with a wide range of iconic, important, funny and emotional video works, films, video clips, trailers and commercials that broke rules and boundaries. During the course, participants will create short videos, and at the end of each semester will submit a video art project.
Students will learn how to tell a story via video, by connecting shots and creating videos on the axis of graphics, video and cinema – while developing their own personal language – and passing through all stages of production: photography, lighting, Pro Premiere Adobe editing, sound, and special effects.
Follow-up course, where we will learn to employ the tools studied in the first year for creating pictograms, symbols and the abstraction of imagery. We will stress the design of elements to create a complete serial product.
The course provides basic comprehension and skills in the principles of animation: timing, movement analysis and work methods, through a series of elementary exercises. The course will include a screening of a selection of classic animation films, experimental films, and a series of contemporary animation series – following which we will hold analysis and discussion sessions.
Typography is the most essential and immediate tool in visual communication. In this course, we will learn how to use typography to indicate character, meaning, identity and emotion.
The first semester will deal with the basic elements of the typographic unit, and address the initial layout and the overall system as a complete product.
The second semester will be dedicated to the utilization of typography as a central element in graphic language; from logotype, through stylesheet characterization and to building a typographic system that “speaks” in a clear, consistent and unique manner.
The course aims to equip students with an advanced video editing toolbox, while studying the After Effects software and the variety of features it offers; to experiment with post-production techniques extracted from the world of commercial television and implemented in the world of art.
This software will serve students in the animation course.
Anatomy drawing, familiarization with the human skeleton.
We will study the features of the body and the means of drawing it.
The course will introduce the groundwork and various trends associated with the development of the medium and the different roles of the designer in the interactive space. We will become proficient in the characterization, planning and fundamentals of designing interfaces and interactive experiences. We will get to know and explore significant and important technologies and interfaces and mobile platforms, and study basic programming for interactive platforms (such as WordPress).
